Professional history

Having previously been an executive running a portfolio of 11 companies, Alex has moved into a portfolio career. He is Chair of Earl Shilton Building Society, which specialises in UK mortgages and savings. He is also an Independent Non-executive Director for Titan Asset Management, which provides fund management services via an inhouse centralised investment proposition to a range of investors across retail clients, IFAs, family offices and institutions. He is also Chair of a healthcare buy and building platform and provides advice to, and invests in, a number of startup and fintech companies.

Alex started his career as a graduate trainee for Kleinwort Benson, focusing on corporate finance, including the privatisation of Deutsche Telekom and Npower. His MBA at Cambridge Judge Business School was also sponsored by Kleinwort Benson. This was his entry into venture capital and private equity, first at Apax Partners and then LDC. He then moved into management and operational roles, this ultimately resulted in Alex being the Group Commercial Director of Skipton Building Society (£25 billion of assets) and running a portfolio of 11 businesses, chairing the majority, and helping them manage their way through the global financial crisis, which included both tactical and strategic development.

Alex earned his undergraduate degree in electrical and mechanical engineering from the University of Edinburgh, and also had a one-year scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania.
