Maria Lucia Perez (MPhil in Management 2023/24)
I studied industrial engineering in Lima, and then I worked for a year at a startup. My favourite subject here has been marketing, not only was it engaging itself but actually it helped me prep for consulting interviews.
The faculty here is very knowledgeable, very engaging, and I would say that I’m lucky to have a very knowledgeable cohort, fully diverse, not only in terms of where they come from, but what they’ve studied. And I think that really adds value to the whole general learning experience here.
I feel that the programme has given me the time to reflect on what I want to do next, to think about what I’m good at, what are my strengths, but what are the things that I have to improve. It has been very important to understand how business really works. I come from a very technical background, which is engineering, so I do understand how the math, how the physics, how the chemistry works. But I think it’s really important to understand how the real world works.
What I remember most is how I started, the first day I started, and how I ended. I feel like it has been a huge change personally, academically, and professionally. I’m super glad of the opportunities this programme has given me.
What advice, if any, would you give to people looking to take this programme?

Natasha Huang (MPhil in Management 2023/24)
I chose this programme because I wanted to have a stronger foundation in business because I felt that I had a strong scientific background and a research background. But I really wanted that more practical experience that could cover a wide range of business-related topics. So I felt like I was really missing that kind of business component. So I thought taking this management programme would really equip me with a lot of the skills and knowledge necessary to try and bridge maybe science and business together.
Yeah, it’s a really cool experience studying here at Cambridge Judge. It’s a very different feel, I think, to a traditional Cambridge department. I think it’s a really good overall environment, and it’s quite an exciting and new place to be. A lot of the course was designed to give us a really strong but also kind of basic foundational view into the subject. So I really appreciated that.
In group projects, you might have people bringing in their own expertise or even some of their experience in previous internships or jobs. This course, in bringing together people from many different fields and experiences and backgrounds, was really useful, and I really appreciated that.
