Niyazi Taneri

Professor of Innovation and Operations Management

BSc (University of Wisconsin-Madison), MPhil, PhD (University of Cambridge)

My research and corporate engagements are related to product and business model innovation, incentive design, supply chains, manufacturing, service operations, technology, and their impacts on societal outcomes.

I use data analytics and game-theoretic methods, publish in leading management science and operations journals, and serve on the editorial board of Service Science. Students I supervised have taken faculty and industry roles in the UK, Netherlands, and Singapore. I have taught executives from and advised companies such as Citibank, DHL, Four Seasons, HP, Shell and Merck.

To unlock greater profitability and societal impact, business leaders need a grasp of how novel technologies and business models affect their processes.

Research interests

Niyazi Taneri addresses questions related to 2 research streams:

  1. new product development, technology and business model innovation
  2. the impact of operations and technology on societal outcomes, with a data analytics and game-theoretic lens.

In the first research stream, he investigates how firms explore avenues for technology and business model innovation and how they should structure R&D partnerships, whether such theoretical predictions are followed in practice, and the consequences of deviating from those predictions.

In the second research stream, his research shows the critical role of operational factors on carbon emissions and labour outcomes (for example, the use of child labour).
